SHR’s Top 5 KEE Testing Tips
Back
Calibrate your KEE Tester with an 18K YELLOW gold plain, unfinished, non-fancy piece (as most 18KY jewelry will have a 22K finish on it that will mess up calibration) . Place it down on the test plate. Lightly touch it with the uncapped, fiber tip pen probe, and adjust the calibration knob so that the needle falls in the center of the 18K range. Please keep the 18KY calibration sample with your KEE Tester at all times.
"SNAP" the pen probe cap tightly closed after testing the item or items. NOT DOING SO WILL DRY OUT THE FIBER TIP AND SUBSTANTIALLY DECREASE THE LIFE OF THE PEN PROBE.
Please confirm your meter needle resting settings are correct! The needle should rest on or near the first black line when the unit is powered off. The needle should rest on or near the last black line when the unit is powered on.
Gently Clean with the pumice cap a skinny area (avoid fat areas as the high karat and fake finishes will lead to a false positive) . For example, 10-Karat Yellow will test low 14 if you do not gently clean a skinny area so that the high karat finish is erased.
ON HEAVY PIECES, A FILE SHOULD BE USED TO CLEAN THE SMALL AREA FOR TESTING. REMEMBER, THE AREA THAT YOU CLEAN WILL FACE UP TOWARD YOU WHEN IT IS ON THE SILVER CONDUCTOR PLATE SO THAT THE PROBE TOUCHES.
Use only light pressure on the pen probe when testing. Excessive pressure will cause the fiber tip to distort, which can shorten the pen probe life.
